What is a lockout rehearsal room?

A lockout is a private rehearsal room you rent by the month and lock with your own access. Nobody else uses it, so you can leave your gear set up and come in whenever you want. All 50 rooms at Black Diamond Studios are lockouts.

Do you rent rooms by the hour?

No. We only rent lockout rooms on month-to-month terms. We don’t do hourly rentals, and we don’t rent gear or supply backline.

When can I use my room?

Any time. Every artist gets 24/7 access to their own room and the shared areas of the building.

How big are the rooms?

Small rooms are about 9′ × 10′ (around 90 sq ft), medium rooms about 14′ × 17′ (around 240 sq ft), and large rooms about 15′ × 19′ (around 285 sq ft). Ceilings are 10′, except for some small rooms with 8′ ceilings.

Are the rooms soundproofed?

All rooms are free-standing, fully insulated with air gaps and sound-dampening barriers between them. Each room has its own solid-core, fire-rated door.

Do the rooms have air conditioning?

Yes. Every room is air-conditioned, with zoned controls.

Is my gear safe?

The building and parking lot are behind key-code entry, the building has closed-circuit cameras and monitoring, and every room has a solid-core door with tamper-resistant latch bolts.

Is there parking?

Yes. There’s a fully gated, unassigned parking lot for tenants, plus plenty of street parking for overflow.

How do I load in and out?

There’s a designated loading ramp and wide hallways throughout the building, so getting cabinets and drums in and out is easy.

Can I get there by train?

Yes. We’re two blocks from the Lincoln/Cypress station on the Metro A Line (formerly the Gold Line), which runs to Highland Park, Chinatown and Union Station. We’re also a few blocks from the 5 and 110 freeways.

What else is in the building?

A players lounge with couches, a covered deck, free ping pong and foosball, a retro tabletop arcade, vending machines, a vintage 1920s Conover upright piano, and free high-speed Wi-Fi throughout. The building is smoke-free inside, with a designated outdoor smoking area.

How much does a room cost?

Rates depend on the room size and what’s available. Call 424.835.1087 or email info@blackdstudios.com and we’ll walk you through current pricing.

How do I get a room?

Apply on our website with a link to your music. We listen to every application and meet the band before offering a room. Approved artists go on our waitlist and hear from us first when the right room opens up.

Is there a waitlist?

Usually, yes. We run at or near capacity and turnover is rare, so most artists join the waitlist. Getting your application in early is the best way to be first in line.

Who rents at Black Diamond?

Working, professional musicians: solo artists, producers, drummers and full bands, many of whom have been with us for years. We’ve been serving local and touring musicians since 2010.
